New statistics show how cosmetic surgery has risen in popularity
Thanks to advancements in the cosmetic surgery industry over the years, there are now a wide range of procedures that can help to reshape the body and restore a youthful, healthy-looking appearance. Now, new statistics show that cosmetic surgery is on the rise, with body shaping procedures steadily growing in popularity.
The new statistics
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently published some new data, showing almost a quarter of a million more cosmetic procedures were performed in 2018 than in the previous year. According to a report published by the organisation, more than 17.7 million surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States last year.
The most popular procedures
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, body-shaping procedures have become particularly popular, as have minimally invasive fat reduction treatments. Some of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries in 2018 were breast augmentation, liposuction, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, and tummy tuck.
Recent trends show increased interest in body-shaping techniques, with liposuction gaining popularity. In fact, the new data shows that more than 12,000 liposuction treatments were performed in 2018 than in 2017 in the United States alone.
Dr Yang offers liposuction at his practice in Brisbane to patients who would like to get rid of stubborn areas of fat. It’s a very useful and versatile procedure, and can be used to reduce fat in many areas of the body.
When it came to minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, some of the most popular choices of 2018 included anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, chemical peels, and laser hair removal.
Why do people get cosmetic surgery?
Deciding to go for cosmetic surgery is a very personal decision, but for a lot of people, these procedures can help promote a good body image. According to a study conducted in the United Kingdom and published in The Canadian Journal of Plastic Surgery, women who rated their self-esteem, life satisfaction and attractiveness as low were more likely to opt for cosmetic surgery. Interestingly, the study also found that cosmetic procedures were rising in popularity among men as well as women.
