Know the facts about liposuction

Do you wish that you could improve the contours and overall shape of your body?

Perhaps you’ve committed to a strict eating and exercise regime, but still struggle with stubborn areas of fat on your thighs, buttocks and hips?

The truth is that our bodies are made up of a number of fat cells, and while these cells change in size as we gain and lose weight, the number remains unchanged. So, while diet and exercise can increase or decrease the amount of fat in each cell, these lifestyle factors will have no effect on the total number of fat cells in the body, or their distribution. Unfortunately, if you are genetically predisposed to having a large number of fat cells on your thighs, for example, no amount of strenuous exercise can ever fully resolve this.

The good news? We offer a procedure that permanently removes fat from the body to improve the overall shape of the figure. Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures done in the world — read on to find out how it works…

What does the liposuction procedure involve?

During the liposuction procedure, fat is removed from below the skin. Very small incisions are made in certain areas of the body, through which the fat can be extracted. A thin tube known as a cannula is inserted underneath the skin in order to loosen the targeted fat cells, and Dr Yang will use a specially designed medical vacuum to suction the fat cells from the body. The fat cells are permanently removed, which reduces the appearance of bulges and improves the contours of the treatment area.

It’s important to note that liposuction is not actually a weight loss technique. Rather, it is a body contouring procedure in which specific areas of fat deposition (such as in the stomach, thighs, hips, and buttocks) are treated. For this reason, we recommend that you are at a healthy body weight and have good muscle tone before you undergo the procedure. You should also have good skin elasticity and be in good overall health.

Which areas of the body can be treated?

Although the hips, thighs, stomach and buttocks are among the most popular treatment areas, liposuction can also be used to slim and reshape the upper arms, back, waist, chin and neck. In your initial consultation, speak to Dr Yang about your concerns and problem areas, and he will advise you of the best treatment plan for your specific goals and desired outcome.

What are the results like?

Although each patient is different, you may experience some swelling following the procedure. We recommend that you wear a compression garment while your body heals, as this will help to reduce swelling and allow your skin to heal on the new contours of your body. Dr Yang will advise you when you can resume your usual exercise routine.

After undergoing a liposuction procedure, you can expect smoother contours and a flatter stomach if you choose to target this area of the body. It is a good idea to maintain a healthy eating plan and fitness regime for the best possible results.
