We offer the breast lift procedure to help our patients and restore the appearance of their breasts and regain their overall silhouette.
With age, many women become concerned with the way their body changes and in particular by sagging or drooping breasts. The medical term for this is breast ptosis (pronounced tosis).
Breast position is maintained by many factors. There are supporting ligaments within the breast that connect the deep layer of the skin to the pectoralis major muscle. These structures are called the Ligaments of Cooper and they help to maintain breast position.
Causes of breast ptosis
These ligaments can stretch over time for several reasons including:
- Large and heavy breasts
- Stretching of the skin due to pregnancy or weight gain
- Exercise (movement and bouncing can cause the supporting ligaments to stretch)
- Weight loss
There are degrees of breast droop depending the position of the lower pole of the breast and the position of the nipple. And these factors, in turn, dictates the type of operation needed.
Reverse the effect ageing has had on your body
Dr Samuel Yang is highly experienced in all kinds of plastic surgeries, including breast enhancement procedures such as the breast lift (also called mastopexy). He can correct droopy breasts by filling the area back up again with implants, surgically lifting the breast tissue, or a combination of both.
For women with drooping breasts, a lift can greatly increase the comfort of bra wear and reduce the associated symptoms of poor posture, neck and back pain, and strap marks.
