ABDOMINOPLASTY (TUMMY TUCK)

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) from a Specialist Plastic Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgeon can better contour your stomach

The procedure for tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)

An abdominoplasty or tummy tuck can remove the loose, excess skin and fat. Typically, the separated muscles of the abdominal wall are also repaired and strengthened. This can make clothes fit better, alleviate chronic lower back pain and reduce skin irritations under the skin folds.

Dr Yang will always see you in person. He will assess what procedure will best suit your needs and whether or not your situation is eligible for a health fund or Medicare rebate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the different types of abdominoplasty?

There are five different types of abdominoplasties or tummy tucks.

If you have excess skin and fat in the lower abdomen between the belly button and above the pubic region, you may be best served with a horizontal tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).

If you want to create more of an defined waist and do not mind more visible scars, you may be a good candidate for a high lateral tension tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).

If you have excess skin and fat from the sternum to the belly button, you may do best with a vertical tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).

If you have excess skin and fat from sternum to the belly button and from the pubic region to the belly button, you may be best served with an inverted T tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).

If you do not want any scars on your abdomen and only have a minimal amount of excess skin and fat on your upper abdomen, you may be a candidate for a reverse tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).

After my tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), how long will I be swollen?

Every patient heals differently and at a different rate. In general, at four weeks 80% of the abdominal swelling is gone. Approximately eight weeks after your tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), almost all the abdominal swelling should be gone. You may notice increased swelling of the abdomen during exercise; this is because blood rushes into the abdominal area and leaks fluid into the capillaries. This fluid sometimes has a hard time returning to your circulation. We suggest you continue wearing your compression garment for six to eight weeks after your tummy tuck. If you are swollen even after eight weeks, we encourage you to continue compression.

When will I be able to see the results?

Patients will notice a dramatic improvement in the contours of their abdomen immediately after surgery. As swelling subsides over the next several weeks, the results of an abdominoplasty will gradually improve. Subtle further improvements will continue for 6 months to a year following a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).

Can I combine a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) with breast surgery?

It is fairly common to combine a tummy tuck with some sort of breast enhancement operation. Any of the breast operations (breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction) can be combined with a tummy tuck.

Does a male tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) differ from a female tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)?

While the steps are similar, there are subtle differences in the contouring of the tissue between men and women to get the best cosmetic results.
