A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) from a plastic surgeon can better contour your stomach
For many people, excessive folds of skin and fat can settle around the abdominal region. Often, no matter how much exercise is done, the skin remains loose and floppy. This can be particularly problematic for those who have lost significant amounts of weight or for women who have been pregnant.

The procedure for tummy tuck
An abdominoplasty or tummy tuck can remove the loose, excess skin and fat. Typically, the separated muscles of the abdominal wall are also repaired and strengthened. This results in an abdomen that is flatter and better contoured. This can make clothes fit better, alleviate chronic lower back pain and reduce skin irritations under the skin folds.

Frequently Asked Questions
There are five different types of tummy tucks.
If you have excess skin and fat in the lower abdomen between the belly button and above the pubic region, you may be best served with a horizontal tummy tuck.
If you want to create more of an hourglass figure and do not mind more visible scars, you may be a good candidate for a high lateral tension tummy tuck.
If you have excess skin and fat from the sternum to the belly button, you may do best with a vertical tummy tuck.
If you have excess skin and fat from sternum to the belly button and from the pubic region to the belly button, you may be best served with an inverted T tummy tuck.
If you do not want any scars on your abdomen and only have a minimal amount of excess skin and fat on your upper abdomen, you may be a candidate for a reverse tummy tuck.
A mini tummy tuck procedure does not affect the “love handle” area. However, there are other procedures that can be recommended for treatment, for example: liposuction or an extended tummy tuck.
Every patient heals differently and at a different rate. In general, at four weeks 80% of the abdominal swelling is gone. Approximately eight weeks after your tummy tuck, almost all the abdominal swelling should be gone. You may notice increased swelling of the abdomen during exercise; this is because blood rushes into the abdominal area and leaks fluid into the capillaries. This fluid sometimes has a hard time returning to your circulation. We suggest you continue wearing your compression garment for six to eight weeks after your tummy tuck. If you are swollen even after eight weeks, we encourage you to continue compression.
Patients will notice a dramatic improvement in the contours of their abdomen immediately after surgery. As swelling subsides over the next several weeks, the results of an abdominoplasty will gradually improve. Subtle further improvements will continue for 6 months to a year following a tummy tuck.
It is fairly common to combine a tummy tuck with some sort of breast enhancement operation. This combination is frequently referred to as a “Mummy Makeover”. Children predictably affect both the breasts and abdomen, so it makes sense that women considering abdominal improvement would also desire breast enhancement. Any of the breast operations (breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction) can be combined with a tummy tuck.
While the steps are similar, there are subtle differences in the contouring of the tissue between men and women to get the best cosmetic results.
