Breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of a woman’s breasts by removing breast tissue and repositioning them.
Each woman has a different idea of how their breasts should be shaped, where they should be on the chest and what size they should be. A breast reduction can help women with larger breasts to achieve a smaller cup size.
At Samuel Yang Plastic Surgery, we understand the importance of being comfortable to do the things you want to do and love the body you are in. Breast reductions are done with the upmost respect to the patient’s wishes, health and wellbeing.

How does breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) work?
There are a number of different breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) procedures, the best procedure would be one that will help you achieve your body goals based on you concerns and your ideal shape and size. Breasts make up a big part of a woman’s physical femininity, Dr Yang is always concerned with reshaping the breasts to retain a comfortable feminine shape often returning breasts to a youthful position on the chest.
There are two main types of breast reduction surgery. One deals mainly with the removal of excess skin that may have been left over from weight loss or child bearing. This method also allows the best opportunity to alter the breasts and gain symmetry in shape, size and positioning.
A less invasive method that results in less scaring may also be used however it does limit the surgeon’s ability to reshape the breast and is often used for smaller reductions

Recovery and after care
Breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) is an outpatient procedure. After a surgery that typically lasts between 5 and 6 hours under general aesthesia a patient is released and can go home. Supportive clothing and dressing is provided to prevent injury and pain as well as prescription pain medication to ease the pain and discomfort.
Taking your first shower is only advised on the second day after surgery where you can expect your breast to feel tender. This feeling should dissipate within weeks as the stiches are absorbed and inflammation fades.
It is suggested that patients take time off to recover from the procedure; however some women feel they are fit for work in as little as two weeks.
